About Renault Kadjar

Renault was one of the earliest firms to make the most of the crossover segment, introducing its compact Captur in 2013, which proved hugely popular almost immediately. The French firm was quick to follow it up with the larger Kadjar, which shares plenty in common with Nissan’s best-selling Qashqai.

Launched in 2015, the Kadjar is a practical, affordable and well-equipped family crossover that also has style on its side. It was given a revision in late 2018, with a smarter design being introduced along with a range of new engines, bringing reduced running costs and stronger performance. Renault is set to axe the Kadjar in late 2022, and replace it with the Austral.

Why buy a used Kadjar?

Renault’s Kadjar is an ideal affordable family SUV, and high up on the reasons to choose it should be for its practicality. That raised ride height makes it very easy to access, while the dimensions make it far more roomy than a typical hatchback – including Renault’s own Megane. Its boot also measures 472 litres, which is noticeably larger than that of the Nissan Qashqai sold between 2014 and 2021.

Renault’s models are also renowned for their style, and the Kadjar is no exception. Whether you’re looking at one of the earlier cars or a later model, it offers a sleek design and good on-road presence to make it stand out from others in this class. Versions with the large 19-inch alloy wheels are particularly eye-catching, though you do need to be aware that the compromise is quite a firm ride.

Though the Kadjar isn’t the most fun car to drive in this class, its redeeming feature is the excellent range of petrol and diesel engines on offer, which are both frugal and offer a decent amount of performance considering the power output.

Elsewhere, the Kadjar comes very well-equipped as standard, with equipment including alloy wheels, an easy-to-use touchscreen, keyless entry and dual-zone climate control to name just a few features.

Kadjar updates

Here’s a short history of the Renault Kadjar, which dates back to 2015.

Renault unveiled the Kadjar in early 2015, with the model designed to sit above the popular Captur and help to boost the brand’s European sales. It arrived in sales in Autumn later in the year.
The Kadjar range was bolstered in 2016 with the addition of a flagship version called the Signature S Nav, bringing features like a panoramic sunroof and Bose sound system.
Changes to the Kadjar in 2017 included a top-spec 163bhp petrol engine, as well as a new CVT automatic gearbox for the diesel.
A facelifted Kadjar was unveiled in 2018, bringing a more modern design inside and out, as well as a refreshed engine line-up.
For the final year of Kadjare production in 2022, Renault introduced renamed trim levels, along with slight styling tweaks.
Later in 2022, the Kadjar was replaced by a new similarly-sized model called the Austral.

What should I look for when buying a used Kadjar?

The Kadjar’s media system can have niggles, so make sure everything works as it should. Cars with problematic screens may need software updates. Also check you can connect your phone with Bluetooth, as many owners have struggled with this.
